It seems like every time I turn around, Silhouette is coming out with a fun new “specialty media” item. When I first got my Portrait (just over one year ago!) I was excited to cut card stock and vinyl with my machine…little did I know there were so many other possibilities!
So whether you’re just starting out with your Silhouette, an advanced user, or just pinning ideas for when you buy one of your own (maybe you’ll win the one I’m giving away in this post!), I think these 15 projects made with Silhouette Specialty Media will be very inspirational for you all!
I made these DIY Return Address Labels using Printable Gold Foil, Printable Silver Foil, Printable White Sticker Paper, and Printable Adhesive Kraft Paper. They are so fun to stick on an everyday envelope – even our bills are fun to mail now!
Here’s another fun and easy project with gold foil – use it to make a geometric background on a card for any occasion!
Lauren over at The Thinking Closet has crammed 4 types of specialty media into one super adorable baby card – she used Adhesive Washi Sheets, Printable Adhesive Kraft Paper, and Adhesive Corrugated Paper! And she’s got great comments on using each type of media, not to mention a free cut file for that super cute card!
Lauren also made temporary tattoos for her nieces and nephews using Silhouette’s Temporary Tattoo Paper – so fun!
Kristy from Please Excuse My Craftermath has a great print and cut tutorial for making your own stickers out of Printable Clear Sticker Paper – she used them on her Christmas cards!
Another type of versatile specialty media is Chipboard, which is basically really thin cardboard that you can cut for all sorts of fun things –
Photo booth props are endless fun! Here are some that I whipped up for a Christmas party (with free cut files!)
You can even make earrings, like these by Cutesy Crafts!
Did you know you can make MAGNETS with your Silhouette?
Infarrantly Creative made a magnetic map of the U.S. – perfect for road trips!
Aren’t these little magnets by Sew Dang Cute Crafts just so dang cute?
Printable Cotton Canvas is another type of specialty media (and included in the promo bundle if you buy a new machine!). Inspired Nest used it to make these lovely Christmas cards.
In My Own Style used it to cut out polka dots for this neat fall burlap table runner.
Vellum is a new addition to Silhouette specialty media. I love these delicate flowers that Mabey She Made It created with her Silhouette!
Finally, a few ideas on how to use Silhouette’s Stencil Material…
Here’s a fun bleach spray shirt from Practically Functional.
And Jeanie at Create & Babble used it to makeover a chair!!
Whew! Are you inspired by all that creativity? I know I am! (And I’d like to run out and buy all the specialty media items that I haven’t gotten a chance to try yet, it all looks so fun!)
Well, lucky for you, all Specialty Media items are 25% off now through May 31st when you use the code UNORIGINAL…so you can get creating!

OMG! Who knew that you could do so much with one little gadget!
I know! I am constantly surprised by things people are able to do with their Silhouettes…there are so many possibilities!
I really had no idea you could do all that! Love the tshirt, the chair, the tattoos…ok, everything! Thanks to you and Silhouette for a great giveaway!
It’s pretty incredible that such a simple machine can do so much! I love the chair too, I think it chair might be my favorite in this round-up…isn’t it fabulous?
Whoo hoo! So honored for the kind words and features, Meredith! And what a fantastic variety of projects you gathered here. Brava! Off to pin.
I would have to say you are the QUEEN of specialty media…it was hard to only pick two of your projects!

Aw, shucks :-) Thanks Kristy!! And glad to include your stickers, they are so stinkin cute!
Ugh, I’ve been wanting one of these for so long. My son just told me he’s tired of seeing me drool over them. Ha! We’re excited to try the tattoo paper. He says I can make him TMNT tattoos.
They really are drool-worthy, aren’t they? If you make some of those TMNT tattos, you’ll have to send me pictures…cause I think my hubby would love some too, haha!!
