Guys, the Target Dollar Spot for the 4th of July season has been ON POINT. They always have cute stuff, but when I went a few weeks ago I came home with 4 or 5 different vinyl-able “crafting blanks” and lots of ideas of what to do with them! Ironically, I was only heading in to buy blank white coffee mug for these preschool teacher mug gifts, but of course I walked out with a bit of extra craft ammunition ;-)
One of the finds I was most excited about was this USA map patriotic door hanger.

They also had a galvanized metal version. It was a tough decision…I stood there with both in my hands for a solid minute or two, but eventually the plain white one won out. And aren’t those poms the perfect little touch? My store still had a full stock of them as of two days ago, so if you hurry you might still be able to find a few at your Target!
I knew I wanted some kind of hand lettered design on it, but it was going to be hard to design something to fit this exact shape on the computer. So instead, I traced the shape onto paper and drew my own design with a sharpie. Then I took a picture of it with my phone and used the photo editing options on my phone to blow out the contrast and make it as crisp of a black and white image as I could. I emailed it to myself, opened the image in Silhouette Studio, and used the trace function to get cut lines. I had to clean it up just a bit using the “edit points” feature, but overall it was a pretty quick and easy process!
Then I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut my design out of blue and red indoor vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and adhered it to the door hanger with transfer tape.
Ta-da! It’s like that little door hanger in Target was just *meant* to look like this from the start, don’t you think?
It’s just what I needed to get my little foyer nook ready for the 4th of July!

And it just so happens that the little heart at the end of the 2nd “home” is right over my home state of Pennsylvania. It’s almost like I planned it that way ;-)

I did the same thing and left both! Now I’m going to have to get back and get one. I did get the stars and stripes cloth garland though ;)
Ohh I was eyeing up that garland too! So many great things, I wanted to load up my whole cart but somehow restrained myself, haha.
This USA shape was definitely begging for some vinyl ;) It looks great! And I also love the tote bag in your photo – do you mind me asking where you got it?
I know, right? It makes me wonder who would buy it and just leave it blank, haha. The tote was a TJ Maxx find right before SNAP, actually! It’s this one – https://www.nordstromrack.com/shop/product/1817135?color=COGNAC
