Use your Silhouette or Cricut to whip up a little girl’s Valentine’s shirt…but not just any shirt! A “be-you-tiful” UNICORN Valentine’s Shirt, made with fabulous sparkle and shine heat transfer vinyl.

The folks over at Happy Crafter’s sent me some samples of their specialty heat transfer vinyl to try out….you guys, I am in LOVE!!! Shimmer and sparkle and shine, oh my! And what kind of design goes best with sparkle? Why, unicorns, of course! With Valentine’s Day coming up, I set off to design a unicorn Valentine’s shirt with this amazing sparkle and shine heat transfer vinyl.
What do you think? Isn’t it fabulous?
I love this sentiment for a little girl’s Valentine’s shirt – be-YOU-tiful. Luckily my 5 year old hasn’t hit too much of the peer pressure thing yet, but I know as she gets older she’ll be faced with the constant struggle of trying to “fit in” and be what popularity determines is beautiful. I hope and pray she always remembers that the most beautiful version of herself is the one God made her to be!
Now, let’s talk about this amazing heat transfer vinyl. The pink center heart and ear insides are this sparkle heat transfer vinyl in “lipgloss pink.” It almost looks like a sticker…except it’s not! It’s really hard to capture in photos because of all the shine, but it is more of a true pink in person. The Sparkle HTV is thicker and stiffer than regular HTV, so I wouldn’t use it for a really big design, but for smaller designs and embellishments it is fabulous! It cut beautifully and adhered really well.
The smaller hearts and the “be{you}tiful” text are regular glitter heat transfer vinyl. I LOVE glitter HTV and use it all the time – it cuts, weeds, and adheres really easily and holds up well in the wash. The black for the ears and eyelashes is just Siser Easyweed HTV, which is my go-to for regular HTV.
And the unicorn horn is SO neat – it’s Happy Crafter’s SHINE heat transfer vinyl in brushed copper. It has a semi-shiny, metallic suede-like look, but is still flexible and soft. Once again, the photos just don’t do it justice. I can’t wait to use it on more projects!

In addition to trying out this amazing HTV, I also tried out another new toy on this project – my new Cricut EasyPress! It was a Christmas gift from my parents, and this is the first time I’ve had it out. I’ve thought about getting a heat press, but I just don’t have the space to store it, so when I read about the EasyPress and how it is more compact but with the same results, I knew I wanted one.
Oh. My. Goodness. It is SO much easier than an iron! I’m used to having to press and hold for 30 seconds, move the iron, press and hold again, lift and wait, repeat, repeat…not to mention the uneven surface of the ironing board plus the uneven heat meant the edges of my designs often began peeling up after a few washes. But with the EasyPress, 15-20 seconds and boom! Done! (Happy Crafters even has a convenient heat press temperature & time guide for each type of their heat transfer vinyl, so that made it even easier!)
I also got this silicone heat press pad to use as a base underneath my projects – I’ve heard of people just using a towel on the floor or something like that, but I wanted something a little more substantial. Even after doing all the layers of HTV on this shirt, the bottom of the pad wasn’t even warm to the touch. Plus it’s a nice smooth, flat surface that’s easy to put on the table or on a counter. I also used a teflon sheet (I ordered these and cut them down to be the same size as the heat press pad) over my shirt in between each layer of vinyl.
You can see the EasyPress in action in this video!

where do i find the unicorn file?
Hi Danielle, it should be in my Silhouette library now! Sorry it wasn’t there earlier but I just updated it!
Where the heart should be on (you) the file looks like a w?
Whoops! It’s all fixed and updated now in the library if you want to go re-download it. Sorry about that, thanks for letting me know!
This is just what I needed to see! Have only used HTV one time on an umbrella, with my iron, and it was not easy at all. I hope I can get one of the Cricuit Easy Presses and that silicone mat too! Your daughter is adorable! Thank you for sharing your file and the tutorial!
Oh I can imagine that HTV on an umbrella with an iron would not be a fun project! This EasyPress is so handy…I’ve been using an iron on all my HTV for years and now I don’t think I could ever go back. Thanks Andi!! :-)
Oh my stars, that easy press looks like a DREAM! Adding it to my crafting wish list along with that super fun HTV. I’ve loved Happy Crafters HTV in the past…and this looks like no exception. Super cute vid. and A is such a be-you-tiful unicorn!
Thanks, friend! :-) I am LOVING how easy it is to use…hence the name EasyPress, I suppose, haha. It adheres the HTV so evenly, and I suspect my projects will hold up better in the wash too. Definitely a good one to put on the wish list!
Can we use the file for cricut as well?
Hi Marjorie, sorry I only have the file in .studio format for use with Silhouette Studio.
Marjorie, I am very new to cricut and not sure how well it will work but I am going to try to use my snipping tool on the computer and then upload it to design space and then clean off everything except the design. I will see how it works.
Did it work with Cricut? i’m a newbie and would love to make it using my cribut
Yes, it should work with a Cricut. You’ll need to download the SVG file in my Silhouette library :-)
I am trying to download for use with my Cricut, but can’t seem to find the SVG download….
Hi Laurie, the files are located inside my Silhouette Library – the sign up is in the post above.
Wow that’s such a cool design! I will have to give it a go. Is there a way to get the file for use in Cricut’s Design Space? – Oh just read the comment above that it’s only for Silhouette. I will have to find or create a similar SVG then! I also love your stunning pictures and amazing video – you make it look so easy!
Just wanted to let you know that the SVG file is now available, which should work with your Cricut!
Love! Do you know if you used Mint or Seafoam green for the smaller heart? Also, what color pink it the writing? I love it!!!! I’ve only used basic HTV, so excited to try this.
Hi Christine! The green is mint…but the pink was from a scrap I already had on hand so I’m not sure exactly what shade it was, sorry! You can’t go wrong with any shade of glitter pink, though ;-) And once you try the specialty HTV you won’t go back, it is SO fun! And I actually find it easier to weed and work with than some of the smooth kind.

What font did you use
I believe I started with Ariadne Script and made some modifications.
How to download thanks! :)
The files are in my cut file library, you need to sign up in the box above for access instructions.
I cant find the cut files for the unicorn.
Can you either send me the link or post it?
Hi Kelley, the files are in my cut file library, you need to sign up in the box above for access instructions.
how large do I make this in my cricut design space? and both files are on one page>
I am new to this and this is my first project
thank you
Hi Linda, I’m sorry, I know absolutely nothing about Cricut Design Space so I can’t really help you with specific! For sizing, make it to whatever size you’d like to fit on your shirt…I like to actually print the design on paper first and hold it up to the shirt to see if it’s the right size.
thank you
I’m having a heck of a time locating your “free cut file”. Please help!!! I want to get this out for my Granddaughter’s birthday!
Hi Brenda, it’s located in my free cut file library, and the sign up to get access to the library is in the blog post above.
I have a Roland Cutter. Is there any way to get the designs for this cutter. These designs are soo SPECIAL. I would love to use these if they come in any other file.
I have no idea what type of file you need for a Roland cutter…but my designs are available in SVGs!
when I type in the password (or copy and paste actually) that was sent in the email, the page just refreshes and it goes no where.
Copy and pasting often adds an extra space – try typing it in.
i cant even find the silhouette free cut library. i have been trying to get there for weeks now. i get a code and click the link which keeps taking back to where i started from. I finally was almost able to download something but it wanted me to open a box to down load to. i just want to download files to my computer as normal and I cant. feeling extremely frustrated. HELP!!!!
Sorry you’re having trouble Sonja! When you sign up for access to the library, you’ll receive an email with a link to the library and password to get in. Once you’re in, you should be able to browse and download any files you like. I use box.com to host all my files, so the links to download the files will take you to box.com where you’ll click the button to download the files to your computer. (Read the troubleshooting information at the top of the library, and that should help you too.) If you’re still having trouble, please feel free to email me.
Fantastic. I loved this t-shirt htv project.
